19-year-old Palestinian shot and killed in suspected stabbing attack

Jerusalem24 – A 19-year-old Palestinian man was shot and killed by Israeli forces during a suspected stabbing attack at the Beit Einoun checkpoint near Hebron in the occupied West Bank yesterday afternoon.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said it had been officially informed of the death of a young man by Israeli fire.

Local sources and later his family identified the man as Fadi Mohammad Ghattas from Dheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem.

Palestinian youth held a protest march in Bethlehem after the announcement.

An Israeli army spokesperson said a 20-year-old Israeli soldier was moderately wounded in the attack and taken to Jerusalem for treatment. The army also released a photo of a commando-style knife laying on the ground.

Footage circulated on social media on Friday afternoon shows several soldiers standing around the wounded Ghattas.

Close to 90 Palestinians have been shot and killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank so far in 2022, including 20 children. This marks a sharp increase over previous years, with a total of 90 Palestinians shot and killed by Israel in the West Bank for the whole of 2021, and an average of 41 during the Netanyahu era.
