Maariv: Hamas Did Not Fall for the “Metro Tunnels” Operation

Jerusalem24 – Israeli newspapers Maariv, revealed today Thursday, new details of the operation targeting Hamas’s “Metro Tunnel” north the Gaza strip, during the latest war on Gaza May 2021.

According to the newspaper, the night the operation was carried out, the Israeli army executed a plan through a field maneuver aiming to mislead the member of Qassam that the army will execute a ground operation on the northern borders of the Strip.

The newspaper said that the Israeli occupation army placed 20 tanks on the northern borders to suggest was planning a ground attack, with the aim of descending Qassam members into the tunnels and eliminating them through aerial bombardment.

The investigation revealed that Hamas understood the plan and ordered its members not to enter the tunnels, however, the Israeli army continued its operation and attacked the tunnels.

The newspaper pointed out that until today, the Israeli army command believes that the decision to implement the plan and attack was correct, although during the “Guardian of the Walls / Sword of Jerusalem” operation, it was decided to implement it in a limited way and different from the original plans that were prepared in advance.

The aim of the operation was to have from 75 to 100 Qassam fighters “killed inside the tunnels,” according to the Israeli military vision, the newspaper said.
