Jerusalemite family expelled from their home in Sheikh Jarrah
Jerusalem24 – Israeli municipality crews accompanied by Israeli military forces stormed the home of the Salhia family in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem this morning. The crew and forces were implementing an “eviction” order.
Mahmoud Salhia told the Ma’an News Agency that the Israeli forces arrived in large numbers along with municipality crews, surrounded his property completely before storming it and beginning the eviction process.
Salhia’s property consists of two houses, a commercial establishment and a plot of land. This comes after 23 years in which the family fought a legal battle in the courts to protect their property. However, the municipality confiscated it under the pretext of public interest.
The property of the Salhiya family is a few meters away from the Shepherd Hotel, which was demolished in 2011 to have 28 settlement units built on its ruins. Work these days is being done to expand the number of settlement units in it.
There is also a plan by the Ateret Cohanim Settlement Association to convert the 500-square-meter Mufti Palace into a synagogue, and an area of land is being expanded. While another plan to convert 25 dunums of “Karam al-Mufti” into a public park.
