Jerusalem24 – Israeli forces arrested, at dawn today, lawyer Farid Al-Atrash, at the “Container” checkpoint overlooking the Wadi Al-Nar road linking Bethlehem and Ramallah. And that while returning to his home in Bethlehem after participating in the vigil organized in Ramallah against the killing of activist Nizar Banat.
Al-Atrash is the coordinator of the Independent Commission for Human Rights in the southern West Bank and has a prominent role in defending freedom of opinion and expression, and he clearly stood against the murder of the activist and dissident Banat.
Ammar Dweik, director of the Independent Commission for Human Rights, quoted the Al-Atrash family as saying that he was transferred to Hadassah Hospital due to his health condition.
He said that al-Atrash had previously been arrested because of his peaceful activism against the occupation, and demanded his immediate release. He held Israeli responsible for his health.
He also pointed out that many international bodies, including the Red Cross and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, were contacted to intervene for his release.
The Israeli soldiers also arrested detainee captive Bilal Abdel Rahman Awad (20 years), from Beit Ummar, North of Hebron.
