Indirect talks held under the auspices of Egypt

Israel fails a new round of talks on a prisoner exchange deal

Jerusalem24 – The Israeli delegation, which arrived on Tuesday evening in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, failed a new round of talks sponsored by Egypt to try to reach a preliminary agreement on the broad lines of a prisoner exchange deal. According to identical sources who spoke to Al-Quds, the new Israeli government adheres to the demands of the previous government, which relate to linking the Gaza reconstruction file to the exchange deal, which Hamas rejects.

While the Israeli Reshet Kan channel reported that the Israeli delegation headed by Yaron Blum, the coordinator of the affairs of prisoners and missing persons, returned from Cairo to Tel Aviv after informing the Hamas delegation through the Egyptian mediator that there would be no long-term calm in Gaza without resolving the issue of the Israeli prisoners and missing persons.

According to the channel, Israel is counting on Egypt to pressure the Hamas leadership to show flexibility in this file, and that Cairo can use the tools it possesses that it has not used yet for this goal.

An Israeli delegation and another from Hamas arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Tuesday evening, to discuss the possibility of reaching a preliminary agreement on the broad lines of a prisoner exchange deal.

Earlier Wednesday, private sources told the Palestinian daily newspaper, Al-Quds, that the Hamas delegation includes at least one military figure from the leadership of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the movement’s military wing, and has arrived from the Gaza Strip to the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

According to the sources at the time, the leadership of the Egyptian intelligence service will hold separate meetings with the two delegations, noting that the Egyptian leadership at the political and security level is concerned with completing this file, which will contribute to reaching a deal that includes a comprehensive calm for several years.

The sources indicated that Egyptian efforts in this regard will continue despite the Iraqi women and the great obstacles they face under the conditions of each party to reach an agreement on the exchange deal.

The sources pointed out that there are efforts by other parties, including the United Nations, Germany, as well as Qatar, to advance the success of these efforts, which aim to restore complete calm in Gaza and improve the economic situation in it.
