The bloody start of a year for Palestinians

20 Palestinians killed since the beginning of 2022, 3 of whom were killed today.

Jerusalem24 – Hardly a week has passed since the beginning of this year, without the killing of a Palestinian in the occupied territories, which are witnessing a noticeable rise of violence by Israeli forces and settlers.

This morning, the Palestinians woke up to news of the death of 3 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces within 3 hours, one of whom was a 17-year-old boy. Starting from the killing in Rahat, to the city of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank, to the Qalandia refugee camp north of occupied Jerusalem.

The first killing of the day was of 27-year-old Sanad Salem Al-Harbed. He was shot dead by Israeli forces reinforced by the Shin Bet who were carrying out an arrest operation in the town of Rahat in the Negev.

The authorities claimed that Harbed initiated a gun fight by opening fire towards the Israeli officers, however; the townspeople denied that claim. They asserted that he was unarmed and did not interfere in the shooting at all.

Meanwhile, in the Rafidiya government hospital, 17-year-old Nader Al-Rayyan died after arriving with several bullet wounds across his body inflicted by Israeli soldiers.

Al-Rayyan was shot when Israeli forces stormed the Balata Refugee Camp, East of Nablus, were met with Palestinian youth throwing stones at them. The Israeli soldiers responded by opening fire using live ammnuition, rubber coated steel bullets and tear gas towards the Palestinian youth. Shooting Al-Rayyan in the process.

Less than an hour later, Israeli forces stormed the Qalandiya camp, north of the occupied city of Jerusalem. killing one Palestinian, wounding another with a critical injury and arresting three others.

Anyone following the series of events and statements by the Israeli government can see that this government with a strange composition is not concerned with the killing of Palestinians, the same way Netanyahu’s governments were not.

Since the beginning of the new year 2022, at least 20 Palestinians have been killed. These figures were met by silence by the Israeli Government Coalition’s parties, from the right to the left and even the United Arab List.
