UK pledges more than 20 million dollars for UNRWA
The United Kingdom is one of the largest donors to UNRWA
Jerusalem24 – The United Kingdom has announced an additional aid package of 20.7 million US dollars for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), bringing the total UK support to the agency this year to 66 million US dollars.
According to a statement issued by the British Consulate General in Jerusalem, today Thursday, the British support package will contribute to providing education to more than 533,000 children, Half of whom are girls.in addition to providing health services to about 3.5 million Palestinian refugees across the Middle East. It will also provide emergency food supplies to more than a million refugees in the Gaza Strip.
The statement clarified that the United Kingdom is one of the largest donors to UNRWA, and that it will continue to support and assist the Agency until a just, fair, agreed and realistic settlement is found for the Palestinian refugees.
According to the statement, UNRWA provides protection and support to Palestinian refugees throughout the region. Therefore, 7.8 million dollars of the total amount announced (20.7 million USD) will be allocated to help save the lives of 438,000 Palestinian refugees in Syria.
