A Ceasefire Comes Into Effect in the Gaza Strip

After 471 days of the Israeli aggression.

Jerusalem24 – As soon as the ceasefire went into effect, chants of “Allahu Akbar” and “Tahleel” filled the Gaza Strip, and residents went out in massive marches, rejoicing at the end of the war and the scenes of killing, destruction and death. Citizens chanted slogans in support of the Palestinian resistance in the middle of the Gaza Strip.

Dozens of displaced people began returning to their homes in the northern Gaza Strip and the city of Rafah.

After 15 months, the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip came into effect at 8:30 am today, ending the genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation army on the Gaza Strip.

The government media office in Gaza announced, on Sunday morning, the start of the deployment of thousands of Palestinian police officers according to the government plan to maintain security and order in the various governorates of the Gaza Strip.

The office explained in a statement received by Safa Agency that the municipalities began reopening and rehabilitating the streets, shortly after the ceasefire decision came into effect.

According to the Head of the Prisoners Affairs Authority Qadura Fares: 1737 Palestinian detainees will be released in the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

And according to the Military spokesman for the Qassam Brigades Abu Obeida: Within the framework of the Al-Aqsa Flood prisoner exchange deal, the Qassam Brigades decided to release today 3 Israeli prisoner in exchange for 90 Palestinian detainee.

The Israeli aggression has displaced more than 85% of the Gaza Strip’s population, more than 1.93 million citizens out of 2.2 million, were forcibly displaced from their homes after they were completely destroyed. About 100,000 Palestinian have also left the Strip since the beginning of the aggression.

1.6 million Palestinian in Gaza are currently live in shelters and tents that lack the minimum requirements for human life, amidst massive and unprecedented destruction of infrastructure and citizens’ property. Estimates indicate that more than 80% of the Gaza Strip is destroyed.

 

Meanwhile, In the West Bank, the Palestinian ministry of health stated that 835 Palestinian were killed by the Israeli army and settlers since the 7th of October, 2023, including 173 children, and 6,450 were injured.

Regarding the number of detainees and the conditions of detention by the occupation forces since October 7th, 2023, the Israeli prison administration has escalated its measures against detainees, including severe beatings, insults, reduced food in terms of quantity and quality, banned them of visits, and practiced all kinds of torture, oppression, and humiliation against them, which reached the point of sexual harassment and assault against a number of detainees.

The Israeli army arrested more than 25,000 Palestinian including women and children, approximately 14,300 detainees from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and others from the Gaza Strip.

The occupation used administrative detention as a punitive and retaliatory policy against large numbers of detainees, as the number of those who were transferred or had their administrative detention renewed once or several times is estimated at about 10,000 detainees.

During the same period, 54 detainees were killed inside the Israeli prisons, 35 of whom were detainees from the Gaza Strip, and the occupation is still detaining their bodies.

 

On the other hand, The Journalists Syndicate said that 193 journalists were killed, and 86 were injured by live ammunition and missile shrapnel since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on October 7, 2023.

The head of the Journalists Syndicate, Nasser Abu Bakr, added during the annual freedoms conference, which was held today, Sunday, that journalists are prevented from working, detained, threatened, kidnapped, and the reality of journalistic work is harmed by striking communications networks, and targeting and hacking Palestinian content on social media sites.

 

Despite the killing, starvation, destruction, loss, pain and displacement, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians celebrated their victory and steadfastness and the legendary steadfastness of the Palestinian resistance in the face of the Israeli occupation in Gaza, today.
