23-year-old Palestinian shot and killed in alleged car-ramming near Hebron
Jerusalem24 – Nadeen Alshaer – The general authority for civil affairs informed the Palestinian Ministry of Health on Saturday evening of the death of 23-year-old Mohammad Raed Nayef Baradiyeh by Israeli gunfire near the town of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron in the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli army said in a statement that three Israeli soldiers were injured in a car-ramming attack, one seriously, another moderately, and the third lightly. The army added that the perpetrator was “neutralized”, and later confirmed Baradiyeh’s death to AFP.
Baradiyeh was a member of the Palestinian Security Forces after graduating from a military school in Bangladesh.
Mohammad’s father Raed told Quds News Network: “Mohammad was a well-mannered man, he was loved. He has been serving with the PSF for about two years, and he was just promoted. Mohammad was supposed to go back to work on Sunday.”
The Israeli army is withholding the body of Baradiyeh, a common practice when Palestinians are shot and killed in the context of alleged attacks.
Palestinian media reported that a Palestinian youth was shot in the head and dozens suffered from tear gas inhalation after confrontations broke out between local youth and the Israeli army when they stormed the town of Beit Ummar following the car-ramming. Mohammad Braigheith was transferred to Al-Ahli governmental hospital in Hebron, the reports said, after suffering intracranial bleeding.
The national and political forces in the town of Beit Ummar announced a general strike today, Sunday, in mourning for Baradiyeh.
Israeli forces and settlers have now shot and killed 92 Palestinians including 17 children across the occupied West Bank including East Jerusalem in 2023.
