Palestinian National Basketball team moves forward in Asia Cup 2025 prequalifiers
Jerusalem24– The Palestinian Basketball Federation hosted its Iraqi and Kuwaiti counterparts this weekend in the first round of the Asia Cup 2025’s preliminary qualifiers, at the Arab American University in Jenin.
The Palestinian National Basketball team managed a difficult victory over Iraq on Thursday with the match ending 91 to 81, while the Saturday match against Kuwait saw another victory for the Palestinian team with a score of 85 to 78.
The game was attended by a number of officials including Secretary-General of the Olympic Committee Abdul Majeed Hijjeh, President of the Iraqi Basketball Association Hussein Al-Amidi, President of the Kuwaiti Basketball Association Rashid Al-Enezi, and President of the Palestinian Basketball Association Ibrahim Habash, as well as the heads of municipalities and sport clubs in the northern West Bank.
The matches were refereed by a crew of Jordanians, Qataris and Uzbeks.
As part of their three-day visit, the Iraqi team visited Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem, while the Kuwaiti delegation paid their respects at the impromptu shrine to slain Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh erected by the Palestinian people on the spot she was killed.
