Wake Up Palestine – Covering Up A Killing

“The Israeli investigation mechanism is not flawed: it’s designed to produce this kind of impunity from justice.”

Jerusalem24 – After news of the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh hit everyone Wednesday morning, Israeli politicians rushed to defend the Israeli military, as the testimonies of the journalists who saw it happen squarely blamed the Israeli soldiers at the scene.

Shortly after the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a video showing a Palestinian gunman it claims could have shot Shireen, B’tselem’s field researcher in Jenin documented the exact location of the gunman in the video, as well as the exact location in which Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was killed.

B’Tselem also published a map showing a distance of over 200 meters between the gunman and Shireen, along with several buildings between them.

Both the map and B’Tselem’s video debunked the Israeli claims.

At a time when the Palestinians are being criticized for refusing a joint investigation with Israel, Roy Yellin, the Director of Public Outreach at B’Tselem says that “the Israeli investigation mechanism is not flawed: it’s designed to produce this kind of impunity from justice.”

In this episode of Wake-Up Palestine, Roy Yellin speaks about Israeli investigations and a persistent lack of accountability.
