Factions Threaten UNRWA Over No Progress in Reconstruction
Jerusalem24 – On Thursday, the Follow-up Committee of the National and Islamic Forces in the Gaza Strip said that it would take a “strict position” on the management of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) if the file of the reconstruction of the Strip is not tangible and didn’t show urgent progress.
The factions explained, that they were “surprised during the follow-up with all the concerned authorities that the reconstruction file for the total demolition of the refugees, which the United Nations Relief and Works Agency sponsored to complete, which is about 700 homes distributed over all the governorates of the Gaza Strip, has not been completed, although all the requirements for starting the reconstruction are available.”
They added, “As the money came from the donors and the materials needed for construction were available, the Ministry of Works worked to solve all the problems facing the agency in managing the file.”
The factions affirmed that “after vigorous follow-up, it was proven that the long delay was caused by bureaucracy and procrastination of the agency and that this behavior is dangerous and totally unacceptable, and the agency’s management bears its responsibility at all levels.”
The factions stressed that they “cannot accept the continuation of this procrastination at the expense of our people and their dignified lives, especially in light of a suffocating siege on all the details of life in the Gaza Strip.”
The factions pointed out that “the UNRWA was created primarily to alleviate the suffering of our people and provide a decent life.”
The factions demanded the agency’s administration take all necessary measures to end this suffering as soon as possible and to hold accountable all those who contributed to the unjustified delay in completing the file.
The factions added that they will closely follow developments in this file and will have strict position if they do not see concrete and urgent action in managing the file to close it as soon as possible.
