99 human rights and civil society condemns the killing of Nizar Banat
It also called for holding the security personnel who violated the freedom of peaceful assembly and use force against demonstrators accountable
Jerusalem24 – Yesterday, Monday, 99 Palestinian and Arab human rights and civil organizations condemned the killing of opposition political activist Nizar Banat at the hands of the security services during an attempt to arrest him, last Thursday, in a joint statement issued yesterday.
In their statement, these parties described the killing of girls as “a criminal act that brings to mind the series of assassinations of opposition figures (..) and an additional stain on the forehead of the government of authority.”
The statement called for the formation of an independent and impartial fact-finding committee in a fair and transparent manner to identify all those responsible for the killing of girls, stressing that there is no impunity for all those involved in these “crimes and violations.”
It also called for holding the security personnel who violated the freedom of peaceful assembly and use force against demonstrators accountable, and to respect public and press freedoms.
It also called for the release of all political prisoners and the cessation of arrest campaigns carried out by the Palestinian security services, and for the security services in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to stop arresting citizens while exercising their right to express their opinions and participate in peaceful gatherings.
