Jerusalem24– Sareyyet Ramallah held its opening performance for the 16th Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival 2022 on 8 June at Ramallah Cultural Palace. The Caitlin Barnett Dance Company–UK opened with a performance called Comrades in the Dark.
The opening performance was about prisoners, the freedom of prisoners, and torture inside prison.
Jerusalem24, a media partner and sponsor to the Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival, attended the opening ceremony and talked to Nadia Musleh, Sareyyet Ramallah Board member.
Musleh told Jerusalem24, “Contemporary dance came to the Palestinian culture not too long ago – but it’s not very new, for us at Sareyyet Ramallah it has been 16 years. People are more accepting of this now, and the numbers of people attending speaks for itself.”
“The performance today was beautiful, I heard someone say when we left that they almost cried because [they] felt the torture prisoners go through.”
The festival will run from 8 to 13 June, and include many performances and film screenings.
