Jerusalem24 – Last night, an Israeli security source revealed additional details about the operation that Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett revealed, about the Mossad’s launching last month a special operation to obtain information about the fate and whereabouts of soldier Ron Arad, who went missing in 1986 in southern Lebanon.
Israeli Channel 12 quoted the source as saying that the operation succeeded in obtaining qualitative intelligence information, which put the case on a specific and clear path for the competent authorities.
According to the same source, the operation that was carried out was unusual and unprecedented and was carried out in several countries, and that the Shin Bet as well as the Israeli army participated in the operation.
He stressed that high-quality intelligence information was obtained that was not available before, and through which it was possible to know and understand what happened with the pilot, Arad.
The source pointed out that the Mossad did not oppose Bennett’s intention to reveal the operation, and that few people knew that he would reveal it during his speech in the Knesset, and that Defense Minister Benny Gantz was not among them.
Some reports from foreign media indicate that Israel succeeded in taking DNA samples from a number of deceased people in Lebanon, to verify whether one of them was Arad.
