Wake Up Palestine – Israel and Palestine at the UN General Assembly

Jerusalem24 – Wake Up Palestine – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas attended the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly on the 24th of September. In his speech he gave an ultimatum and a deadline to Israel. Withdraw from the 1967 borders or the Palestinian recognition of the state of Israel will be rescinded. He also gave mention that the destruction of the two-state solution could lead Palestinians to demand equal rights within one binational state, comprising Israel, the Occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Abbas’s speeches in previous years were often met with grand celebrations, and public events screening the speech through a livestream. Nothing of the sort happened this time around. which could be due to his dropping popularity. According to the Palestinian center for Surveys and policy, 80% of the Palestinian people believe he should be stepping down.

Gilad Erdan, Israel’s ambassador to the United States, denounced the speech. Accusing the Palestinian president of refusing peace with Israel. Taking to twitter, saying that Abu Mazen’s speech was full of lies, those who truly support peace and negotiations do not threaten delusional ultimatums.
