Released detainee succumbs to cancer after being released by Israel
Jerusalem24 – Last night, the Commission for Detainees and Ex-Prisoners Affairs announced the death of the released detainee, Hussein Masalmeh, who was ill with cancer. Masalmeh passed away at the Istishari Hospital in Ramallah.
The Israeli authorities issued a decision to release the 39-year-old Masalma,from the town of Al-Khader, south of Bethlehem, on February 14, 2021. He was transferred to the Hadassah Hospital in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
Since the end of 2020, Masalmeh’s health has been deteriorating, suffering pains that lasted for more than two months, during which the Israeli Prison Service delayed his transfer to the hospital. The commission stated that the Israeli Prison Service also implemented the systematic policy of medical negligence against him, as he was at the Negev Desert Prison at the time. By the time his health was in a difficult stage, he was taken to the hospital to find out later that he had Leukemia.
He stayed peacefully in Hadassah Hospital until 9/13/2021, when he was transferred to Istishari Hospital in Ramallah.
It is noteworthy that the prisoner Masalma was arrested in 2002 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison, of which he spent about 19 years.
