Demonstrations in front of Gilboa prison and in Kafr Kanna in support of the detainees
Jerusalem24 – Hundreds demonstrated, yesterday evening, in front of Gilboa prison and in the village of Kafr Kanna in support of detainees in Israeli prisons, in light of the oppression, abuse and continuous assaults they are subjected to.
Dozens demonstrated in front of the prison at the invitation of the National Forces and the Prisoner’s Club. The demonstrators also chanted slogans demanding freedom for the detainees in Israeli prisons.
In Kafr Kanna, dozens of families demonstrated in support of the detainees in prisons and against violence and crime, with the participation of the head of the local council, Ezz El-Din Emara, and a number of activists from various parties and active movements on the local scene.
The demonstrators also raised slogans denouncing the violence and crime rampant in the Arab community, and others against the policy of abuse and repression against the prisoners, following the Gilboa escape, which was carried out by 6 prisoners two weeks ago.
In a related context, the Freedoms Committee emanating from the Higher Follow-up Committee for Arabs at home called on the Palestinian people to actively participate in a demonstration entitled “Freedom for the Prisoners of Freedom” in front of the Al-Jalama prison, today.
The committee stressed that, “after the success of 6 prisoners of our people in liberating themselves from Gilboa prison and the re-arresting of them and detaining them in the basements of the intelligence services in Jalameh prison, the detainees of the Palestinian people in Israeli prisons live in a state of harassment, abuse and revenge. Which has reached the point of preventing them from their basic rights that are guaranteed to them. All international and humanitarian covenants and treaties are ignored by the jailers and the Israeli institution, and the prisoners’ movement in Israeli prisons has announced escalatory protest steps against the abuse they are subjected to, including the start of an escalating hunger strike that begins in a number of prisons next Friday.
The statement also said, “The abuse, torture, and revenge that our Palestinian prisoners of liberty are subjected to in Israeli prisons are outside the law and human and legal values, and it calls our people to support the just humanitarian demands and the legitimate rights that are guaranteed to the detainees by all international covenants and treaties.”
The Freedoms Committee emanating from the Follow-up Committee and the Higher Follow-up Committee concluded by announcing, “the wide spread demonstration in support of the prisoners and their demands and their legitimate rights will take place today, Sunday – six o’clock in the evening, in front of Al-Jalama prison. Where the liberated prisoners who have been re-arrested are detained in the basements of the intelligence.”
