Palestinian Authority prohibits weddings, funeral homes and celebrations
The decision comes as 17 deaths and 2,742 cases of Covid-19 were documented.
Jerusalem24 – Yesterday, the Palestinian Authority decided to prevent gatherings and celebrations of all kinds, including weddings and funeral homes, starting next Monday, to limit the spread of the Coronavirus.
The government’s decision came after the number of deaths and infections with the virus escalated to unprecedented levels since mid-April, with 17 deaths and 2742 new infections recorded during the 24 hours until yesterday noon.
The government said, in a statement after its weekly meeting, yesterday, that it had decided to “ban gatherings, weddings, mourning houses and celebrations of all kinds, after 6 days of its date to give people an opportunity to arrange their conditions.”
Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh had started the government session again by warning of the rapid spread of virus mutations, calling on citizens to observe social distancing, attention and adherence to safety procedures.
The government received a report on the epidemiological situation in light of the high rates of infection with new variants of the virus, and the efforts made by the Ministry of Health staff to confront the rapid spread of the virus, especially the call for citizens to increase the demand for vaccinations to protect themselves and immunize their community from the virus.
The Ministry of Health said in its latest daily reports on the developments of the epidemic, yesterday, that 17 citizens died as a result of being infected with the virus during the last 42 hours, which is the highest death rate since last May 11, when 20 deaths were recorded.
Among the new deaths, 10 were in the Gaza Strip, 4 in Tulkarm, two in Qalqilya, and one death in the outskirts of Jerusalem.
The ministry said that it recorded 2,742 new infections during the past 24, which is the highest daily infection rate since last April 12, when it recorded 2,762 injuries.
As of yesterday, the recovery rate from the Corona virus in Palestine reached 91.6%, while the percentage of active infections was 7.3%, and the death rate was 1% of the total infections, according to the Ministry’s report.
Among the active infections, 139 patients are hospitalized, including 55 patients in intensive care rooms, 14 of whom are on ventilators.
With regard to vaccinations, the ministry said that the total number of citizens who received the vaccine, as of yesterday noon, amounted to one million and 134 thousand and 636 citizens, including 473 thousand and 391 citizens who received the two doses.
The number of interviewees in the West Bank reached 799,885 citizens, constituting 47.4% of the target group, while in the Gaza Strip it reached 334,751 citizens, constituting 26.5% of the target group.
