Palestinian National Fund cuts off Yasser Arafat

A week after suspending al-Qudwa for "insubordination"

Jerusalem24 – Today on Monday Dr. Ramzi Khouri, General Director of the Palestinian National Fund, signed off on a decision to cut funding from the Yasser Arafat Foundation. In the official document, Khouri writes that this decision was made at the behest of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The decision comes a week after the Fateh Central Committee suspended Naser al-Qudwa’s membership from the movement, a decision that was supported by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Al-Qudwa, who is the Chairman of the Board at the Yasser Arafat Foundation, was suspended after the Central Committee considered that he violated the Abbas’s decision of prohibiting members of the faction from forming their own parliamentarian blocs for the upcoming elections.

The Yasser Arafat Foundation was founded in 2007, with the purpose of “preserving the heritage of Yasser Arafat.” The foundation does this through archiving historical documents, photographs and videos involving the late Palestinian leader who passed away in 2004. The Foundation also provides a full scholarship for Palestinian students to study abroad.
