President Abbas declares the state of emergency
President Mahmoud Abbas renews the state of emergency in Palestine over coronavirus for another 30 days.
Jerusalem24 – President Mahmoud Abbas today declared a state of emergency in Palestine for 30 days effective immediately in order to give the government enough powers to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
The state of emergency was first declared in March of last year after the discovery of the first cases of coronavirus in the Palestinian territories and has been extended or re-declared every 30 days since then.
Palestinian law allows a one-time extension of the state of emergency, and if it has to be extended for a longer time, a new declaration should be issued.
