Saeb Erekat, Chief Palestinian Negotiator, dies at 65
He passed away a month after being infected with Coronavirus
Jerusalem24 – Saeb Erekat, the Chief Palestinian negotiator, has passed away at the age of 65 at Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem, a month after he contracted the Coronavirus; which caused him multiple organ failures.
Erekat’s treatment during his hospitalization was given intensive treatments which included a heart-lung machine (ECMO) and special drug treatments by specialists. According to the PLO Negotiations Affairs Department, Erekat who had undergone a lung transplant in the United States in 2017, had tested positive for the Coronavirus in early October.
The Palestine Liberation Movement, Fatah, mourned Erekat on Social Media. While a statement from his family reads as follows “Our father moved in peace after he showed extraordinary strength and will, the same determination that characterized his career to achieve freedom for Palestine and a just peace in our region,” Erekat’s daughter, Dala Iraqat, said in a Facebook post. “And his commandment to us all is to adhere to the rights of the Palestinian people until they achieve freedom and independence.”
