Palestinians react following Biden’s victory in the American elections
President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated Joe Biden on his victory.
Jerusalem – Palestinian parties and personalities commented, Saturday evening, on the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, victory in the US elections to become the 46th US president.
Nabil Shaath, the special representative of President Mahmoud Abbas, said yesterday evening, that “there has been nothing worse than the era of the current President Donald Trump, and getting rid of him is a gain.”
This came in statements to the Turkish Anadolu Agency, as the first Palestinian comment on the results of the US elections.
From his side, the dismissed leader of the “Fatah” movement, Muhammad Dahlan, said in a statement on his official Facebook page that “the victory of the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden in the American presidential elections, is a positive development that reduces the risks of the Trump and Netanyahu alliance, and opens the way for a new peace path based on The two-state solution, as Biden personally promised during his election campaign.”
In the same context, Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, said in a tweet on Twitter: “The United States got rid of Trump and needs treatment from Trumpism in order to restore its moral balance.”
For its part, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine stated that Joe Biden’s victory in the American presidential elections will not bring any fundamental change regarding the rights of the Palestinian people and as well as all various Arab issues. As they consider Biden an extension to the approach of previous American democratic administrations that have not ceased their absolute support for Israel at various levels, and support overriding international legitimacy decisions, even those unjust agreements that sponsored their signature in the White House.
In a statement the Islamic Jihad said, “We are not betting on a change in Washington’s policies towards the Palestinian issue after Biden’s victory, as we have had bitter experiences with successive US administrations.”
The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, congratulated today, Sunday, Joe Biden on his victory as President of the United States of America for the coming term, and his elected Vice President Kamala Harris.
He expressed his aspiration to work with President Biden and his administration in order to strengthen the Palestinian-American relations and to achieve freedom, independence, justice and dignity for the Palestinians, as well as to work for peace, stability and security for the region and the world.
