Jerusalem24 – After dozens of documented cases of violations against Palestinians’ right to medical care, attacks on Palestinian medical staff, and more, Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI) has decided to take action.
PHRI lodged a formal complaint against the Israeli Medical Association (IMA) to the Global Medical Association. The complaint alleges that the IMA ignores several violations when it comes to the Palestinian right to healthcare and as such violates medical ethics.
The complaints listed against the IMA included compromising Palestinian medical staff during confrontations with Israeli forces; undermining Palestinian patients’ ability to receive health care; providing legal cover for the establishment of the Medical College at Ariel University – which is established in an illegal settlement in the occupied West Bank; and the role of doctors in Shin Bet interrogations which routinely involve torture.
