68-year-old Palestinian woman dies in Israeli jail
Jerusalem24 – Palestinian prisoner Saadia Matar Farajallah has died aged 68 in unknown circumstances.
Farajallah, who was from the Hebron town of Adana, was pronounced dead on Saturday morning at Damon prison.
The body of Farajallah was transferred yesterday from the Damon detention center to the Abu Kabir forensic medicine institute, pending a date for the autopsy.
Farajallah was one of 31 Palestinian women currently detained in Israeli prisons, and one of the oldest prisoners in Israeli captivity. She was a mother to eight children.
Farajallah was arrested on 18 December 2021, after being beaten near the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, on the suspicion that she was planning a stabbing attack.
Farajallah had previously been arrested during the First Intifada in 1987, in addition to a spell in administrative detention in 2017.
A total of 228 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli prisons since 1967, according to Addameer.
