55 years on: How over five decades of occupation have changed Jerusalem’s economy
Jerusalem24– This month marked 55 years since the start of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories (ie, the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip), a belligerent occupation that has been carried out in the context of, and serves to entrench, Israel’s settler colonization and apartheid of Palestine.
In this special episode of Vibes, which is a part of the 55 Years since Al Nakseh series on Vibes and Wake up Palestine, we talked to the Director-General of The Palestine Economic Research Institute (MAS), Raja Al Khaldi, about the economic reality in Jerusalem over the course of 55 years.
Al Khaldi explains to us that a third of the economy in Jerusalem depends on Israel, and that changes in its economic situation have been caused by “a lack of access to traditional markets and the force in the integration into Israeli consumer markets, investments, and banking.”
