Palestine Red Crescent Society responds to accusations of statistics manipulation
Jerusalem24 – The Palestine Red Crescent Society issued a statement last Sunday in response to accusations by an Israeli Police spokesperson that it was inflating the number of injuries sustained by Palestinian worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque during the month of Ramadan.
“Our injury statistics include those inflicted by live and rubber-coated bullets, physical and aggravated assault, as well as severe cases of nausea caused by tear gas”, the statement said, noting that the statistics do not include cases of “panic” as was asserted by the police spokesperson.
The statement emphasized that it was not the first time the organization had been subjected to “slander” by the Israeli authorities, alleging it was a regular target because of its “outstanding performance and humanitarian work”.
According to a PRCS Operational Update released during Ramadan, 292 Palestinians were injured throughout the West Bank and Jerusalem, including 71 injuries by live and rubber-coated ammunition, between the 16th and 20th of April.
