Palestinians to meet with Israeli municipality over house demolitions
A lawyer for the families is hoping to find an agreement with the Israelis to end house demolitions in Jabal Mukaber.
Jerusalem24 – Palestinian Lawyer, Raed Nasser Bashir, said that he will meet with the legal advisor to the Israeli municipality of the occupied city of Jerusalem on Monday next week .
He hopes to reach an agreement on the announced goals regarding the policy of demolishing homes in Jabal Mukaber.
Bashir has stated that he aims to benefit the entire city of Jerusalem and to permanently stop the policy of demolition that violates all international laws and conventions.
Yesterday, the owners of the homes threatened with demolition by the Israeli municipality demonstrated against house demolitions in Jerusalem for the fifth week in a row. They raised slogans condemning racial discrimination and the demolition of Palestinian homes with the participation of members of the Joint Arab List in the Knesset, Ahmed Al-Tibi and Osama Al-Saadi.
The people of Jabal Mukaber began a widespread popular and legal movement against house demolitions around 50 days ago after receiving demolition notices for over 130 homes at the beginning of the year.
Bashir indicated that the demands of the residents are represented in a final halt to the demolition of homes, recognition of existing buildings, facilitating procedures for organizing land, and reducing licensing costs through clear legislation and law.
