Prisoners Commission: The occupation carries out a crime of medical negligence against prisoner Maatan

Jerusalem24 – The Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Commission confirmed that the Ofer prison administration is carrying out a systematic crime against the cancer-stricken prisoner, Abdel Basset Muhammad Maatan, 49, from the town of Burqa, east of Ramallah.

The commission stated in a statement issued today, Tuesday, that the prisoner Maatan suffers from colon cancer, as well as cancer in the glands, and he underwent an operation to remove a 35 cm tumor in 2019, but he urgently needs to undergo periodic examinations every 6 months for fear of the disease spreading again.

She added that the prison administration is still procrastinating and evading its responsibilities to provide the necessary treatment to the prisoner Maatan, on the pretext that there is no evidence to prove that he suffers from cancer despite the presence of medical reports proving this, knowing that the condition of the prisoner Maatan requires close follow-up and the provision of special medicines for his condition. And presented to an oncologist as soon as possible.

The commission also condemned the ongoing medical violations against the 600 sick prisoners held in various Israeli prisons, pointing out that most of them need special care due to their severe health conditions, but the occupation prison administration does not care about them.
