Palestine’s Italian friends
The work of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in the occupied Palestinian territories
Jerusalem24 – Italy is one of the countries that support Palestinian rights, and since its establishment, in the 1980s the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) has taken charge of development cooperation initiatives in the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza strip.
The AICS has been working through its partners on developing and improving the Palestinian economy through empowering youth and women in various initiatives in Jerusalem, and Area C of the West Bank in particular through cooperation with various partners on the international and local levels.
The AICS has partners in the local Palestinian NGO sector, the Palestinian Authority, and international NGOs such as UNESCO.
Despite the organization being a directorate of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it has faced its own difficulties in working in Palestine. It also faced new challenges with the advent of the COVID19 Pandemic.
Regardless, AICS still succeeds in signing new projects, such as the “Maintenance and Management of Tell Al-Sultan.”
In this episode of Wake Up Palestine, we host Dr. Guglielmo Giordano, the Director-General of AICS in Jerusalem. Giordano talks about the plans that the Agency has for Palestine in the coming year, as well as their work in the occupied territories and how they accomplish it.
