Jerusalem24 – Palestinian Ministry of Health , said today, Tuesday, that leukemia is the most spread cancer type amongst children in Palestine, as brain cancer comes second followed by lymphoma tumors.
The ministry added in a statement, that during 2020, 174 cases of cancer in children were recorded in the West Bank, 43 of which are leukemia, noting that it holds no official statistics from the Gaza strip.
The ministry continued, “Currently, in the West Bank, there are approximately 2,277 children who have or have contracted cancer under the age of 18, some of whom have fully recovered and some are still receiving treatment.
The Ministry of Health indicated that 25 deaths among children with cancer were recorded during 2020, which constitutes 2.3% of the total deaths due to cancer, while statistics for the year 2021 are still being prepared.
The Ministry of Health said in its statement that it’s working to provide the necessary treatment for children in its facilities, and in the event that it is not available, patients are referred to other centers to ensure their safety and receive the necessary treatment.
Today, the fifteenth of February, is the International Childhood Cancer Day, which was designated by the International Federation of Childhood Cancer Organizations in 2002 to protect children from cancer.
